my 23rd birthday wishlist

my birthday is on June 1st, and there are so many things that i have learned in 23 years of living...

  1. God is great, while family is key. family is everything.
  2. there is nothing wrong with tooting your own horn x 1,230,493,758 times
  3. smoking cigarettes is stupid and pointless.
  4. you need friends, friends need you. let them know that they are wanted and appreciated
  5. don't be ashamed of innumerable pictures on your computer of yourself, posing.
  6. camera whorring, narcissism, and unquenchable vanity is a-ok.
  7. be thankful for someone else's kindness, don't be rude or ungrateful when someone does something nice to/for you.
  8. patience is a virtue.
  9. i'll never be skinny.
  10. i was helluvalot tougher when i was younger.
  11. it's okay if you take your time with college and live out your passion before hitting the books full throttle.
  12. true love waits.
  13. shitty men suck asshole, but if feels damn good when you're in love with "the one"
  14. i was in love with sean at 15... i'm in love with sean at 23- if it's meant to be, then it will be.
  15. let past relationships be just that. forget their names, don't speak of them (or to them) don't entertain their wholly pathetic attempts to apologize to you.
  16. eat your heart out
  17. talk your lungs out.
  18. buy expensive things, or at least make cheap things look expensive.
  19. walk around with confidence and class
  20. always have a good manicure, or at least keep your hands well kept, those suckers are true attention grabbers-besides your face.
  21. wear your retainer and channel your inner awkward, chubby, 13-year-old.
  22. reading is fundamental. music is emotional. money is the root of all evil.
  23. act your age, make mistakes, and realize that life is hard, but damn is it wonderful.

my birthday is on June 1st...man... i'm getting old. it's not even fun talking about my birthday, so make me feel better about my youthful demise by getting me something special. :)

yipeeee!

note:
people may criticize and even insult me for saying this, but let's remember... this is my blog. therefore my feelings and opinions will be represented by my words.

with that said, (i apologize for the disclaimer)

CALIFORNIA SENATE HAS AFFIRMED THE RIGHT FOR SAME SEX MARRIAGE!

the californina senate has shut the door on two laws claiming that has limited marriage to only a man and a woman. the 4-to-3 decision makes california the second state after massachusetts to allow gay marriage.

-(exerpt & picture from the new york times)

i am so very happy with this decision. this is truly a milestone in United States history. i teared up a little bit from sheer enthusiasm! this country's citizens have been fighting for equality for almost a century, why is gay marriage any different? some of these couples have been together for more than twenty years, with such a terrible burden drooping over their shoulders. it was unethical and discriminatory when they were denied the right a couple of years back. two people in love should and will now be able to sanctify their monogamy and dedication to one another in a ceremony. marriage is a beautiful and meaningful tradition that should be felt by everybody if and when their heart desires

okay... i'm starting to sound a little like a disney fairytale, but you know what i mean.

to keep it real, i'm super stoked. i have many gay and lesbian friends who i absolutely adore and admire, and they should feel the happiness that a straight person would feel, calling a person their husband or wife. they deserve that right, and i will be gleaming with happiness when they do get married. c'mon ya'll... let's stop with the hate and the bashing. this is a happy day in history.

cultured nerdies.

so my wonderful bo'friend scheduled a very interesting and educational date for us at the natural history museum in Los Angeles.

such good times... looking at minerals and gemstones, exhibits of the history of california as well as animals-preserved and living. there was even an exhibit of thomas the t-rex, where paleontologists scrape, clean and analyze this predator of the late cretaceous period.

we decided that when we have kids, the only fun things they will be able to do under strict parental supervision are:

a. go to museums
b. play sports
c. church/church functions

they will most definitely stay away from:
a. mcdonalds/fast food in general
b. racism/prejudice
c. the mall

hahah... oh lordy, i want to make my future offspring mega geeks with no vices. i shall try.

so picture time... beware of very cheesy shots. i warned you...

we were greeted by a replica of a t-rex and triceratops

yes, we're super corny with matching relationship bracelets. don't hate...

this was a gorgeous exhibit.

technological advances.
he was one ugly megamouth.

polar bear!haha...

sean likes dingleberries.

yeah, we squirmed for a bit.

channeling my inner lauren conrad

so i'm obsesssed with the hills. lauren conrad's dramatic and overly scripted life has brought particularly bored nights in riverside some juicy reality tv candy in my life. she dresses very well, her makeup is alright, but one thing that i decided to emulate from miss laguna hills turned los angeles fashion icon is her braided hairstyle.

exhibit a:
here's a quick tutorial to tap into your inner fashionista.

  1. volumize hair with a voluminzing spray (paul mitchell volumizing spray)
  2. easiest if you have a side part, but start the braid on the side of your hair where you wear it most.
  3. make a french braid, but make sure that you latch onto the hair and tuck it under with each rotation to show an actual braid.
  4. pin
  5. tease and tousle the back hair
  6. let the loose hair fall naturally or pull back in a side ponytail
voila!

easy peezy japaneeezy.

now do it!

success!

so studying really does pay off! i really think i pwned my midterms this week! :)

starbuck's americanos rule my life, sleepless evenings and jittery hands accompany the fabulous learning experience. ask me anything concerning asian-american ethnic studies or 20th century united states history and i will literally recite your ear off, so don't ask me anything. haaha.

i think i'm going to update my blog get up. it's kind of boring and i think i want to sassy up my life- i'll start with my blog.

oh yes, i forgot to mention my ecstatically exciting news!

your girl is now a published newspaper columnist. i write about fashion and beauty on the Filipino Summit, which is based in Hawaii and will (hopefully) be expanded to california and new york. the first issue went to press on April 13th, but i'm still waiting for the 13 copies that i asked ema to send me to arrive at the door :( whatevs... i don't think anything will get me down. i am not getting paid for working, but the experience and the confidence will definitely open doors for me in the future!

now... fun fun fun pictures:

homemade shabu shabu... mmmmm.

Sean had din din with the family :)

spring 2008 and the perfect manicure

Ahhh… can you feel it? The sun is beaming its beautifully orange head at us, the greenery is well…green and sundresses are finally out of the closet. It’s time to gracefully wriggle out of our trenchcoats, and pack up those boots, because vibrancy, muted makeup and open-toed anything is willfully waking from hibernation.

Some spring/summer trends this season:

Lingerie inspired ( like this satiny piece from Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 collection) pieces made its way on the runway and into my “gotta get” list.

The asymmetrical look is back in a big way! I really hope you didn’t throw away those tops circa 2003, because you’re gonna need them!
Tip: accessorize with bracelets, but keep the neck bare for this look, keep the focus on your beautiful clavicle!

Gwen Stefani L.A..M.B.

RUFFLES!
My oh my… this look is the epitome of girly chicness! I mean, come’on… who doesn’t feel like a million dollars in tasteful ruffles!

Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B

What’s the best accessory for such a fantastic spring color palate?

THE PERFECT MANICURE!

Sure, you can go ahead and pay your hard earned money for a great manicure, but why do that when you can do it via the comfort of your own home?

Here are some eassssy steps for a dazzling set of fingernails!

Need:
Nail polish remover
Q-tips
Cotton balls or pads
Orangewood stick
Emery board
Bowl of war water
Scented oil (optional)
Base coat
Nail enamel
Top coat

1. Clean nails with nail polish remover and cotton ball. Use a q-tip for hard to reach polish being careful from saturating hang nails.
2. Use an emery board to file nails in an oval/squared shape. Go in a unidirectional motion, and avoid going back and forth ensuring minimal breakage. Apply thick hand cream or shea butter.
3. Soak in warm water. Add scented oil to feel like you are at a 4 star spa! This softens the cuticle, breaks down any dirt under the nail, and removes filing dust on hands and nails.
4. After soaking for 10 minutes, dry hands. Get an orangewood stick and push back cuticles. Don’t push too hard to rupture the cuticles, just gently push them back to get the most out of your nailbed.
5. apply basecoat, wait 5 minutes to dry
6. apply 2 coats of nail enamel. Eait 10 minutes for color to dry
7. apply topcoat. Wait 5 minutes to dry.
grab a q-tip and remove any stains, or jump in the shower and the excess polish will dissolve in warm water!

Some great colors for spring would be a fiery red, or a neutral pink or nude. try suppper hard not to smudge your fingernails!

Enjoy! And talk to you soon! Stay cool! See ya peoples!

vegas '08 and the FEROSH 11!

ahhh vegas! one word to describe the weekend is "calamity!!!" all the females that accompanied me on this trip were soooo FIERCE! God, i love my friends and our adventures! i am very much blessed to have such amazing people who make my days so memorable and fantastic...from the V.I.P. to severely hungover mornings and constant laughter that ricocheted off the walls in the hallways of the venetian, drunken stumblings, profoundly deep conversations and the rekindling of friendships and confidence made for, by far, the best weekend of my sassy and vivacious life.

i hope you're patient, and ready... because there are a bunch of really hawt pictorals!
